2020, Domaine de Cambes, CÔTES DE BOURG

$88

Bordeaux Blend: Merlot, Cabernet Franc.

The 2020 Domaine des Cambes has a perfumed and curiously quite Burgundian bouquet, very pure with red cherries and crushed strawberry fruit. Pretty. The palate reverts back to its regional origin, grainy tannins, quite gourmand in style with savory, cereal-tinged finish. Easy and open, enjoy this over the next 12 years or so. 88 Neal Martin, Vinous.

The 2020 Domaine de Cambes is a gorgeous, luxuriously deep wine done in Francois Mitjavile's gently oxidative, concentrated style. Sumptuous black cherry, plum, chocolate, espresso and licorice all meld together. Pliant and supple, with generous fruit, Domaine de Cambes is so expressive today. Like many 2020s, it is a bit tight, but that should not be an issue in another few years' time. The purity of the flavors is compelling. 94 Antonio Galloni, Vinous.

Expressive aromas of blackberries, violets and sweet spices preface the 2020 Domaine de Cambes, a medium to full-bodied, velvety and layered wine that's rich and demonstrative, its generous core of fruit framed by fine, chalky tannins. 92 William Kelley, Wine Advocate.

Sporting a deep garnet-purple color, the 2020 Domaine de Cambes rolls out of the glass with exuberant notes of plum preserves, Black Forest cake and boysenberries, plus hints of star anise, cedar chest, camphor and smoked meats. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers mouth-coating black and blue fruit preserves, framed by chewy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and earthy. 90-92 Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate.

An enjoyable wine from the Francois Mitjavile Roc de Cambes stable, made with grapes planted just outside of Bourg. Enjoyable, well balanced and cheerfully unfussy wine with a highly attractive smoky edge from carefully delivered oak. This is good stuff, and no need to wait. 90 Jane Anson, Decanter.
