2022, Domaine Lignier-Michelot, CLOS DE LA ROCHE, Grand Cru
The 2022 Clos-de-la-Roche Grand Cru, which contains around 60% whole bunches, has a more cohesive bouquet compared to the Clos Saint-Denis: pure red berry fruit, wet limestone, sous-bois and a tangible sense of primal energy. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chalky tannins. Very harmonious with perfectly judged acidity, this fans out wonderfully towards the pixelated finish. Excellent. 95-97 Neal Martin, Vinous (2023).
Lignier produced 15 barrels of the 2022 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru, derived from holdings in Genavrières and Monts Luisants. Unfurling in the glass with aromas of sweet red berries, orange zest, burning embers, exotic spices and loamy soil, it's full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, with a deep core of fruit, supple tannins and a long, sapid finish. This is a terrific effort. 93-95 William Kelley, Wine Advocate (2024).
