Cabernet Sauvignon
The main component of the great wines of the Medoc. A warm-climate grape with thick dark skins, providing the necessary tannins for aging and texture - but always used as part of a blend. Chateau Lafite-Rothschild, for example, is on average 80% Cabernet Sauvignon - the balance is made with Merlot and a touch of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
