2021, Domaine Ponsot, CORTON-CHARLEMAGNE, Grand Cru
From two parcels on the Pernand side and Les Longuettes, around half each, the 2021 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has an intense nose with potpourri and orange blossom mixed with lavender (it reminds me of my grandmother's bathroom, but you are probably not familiar with that.) Anyway, this is beguilingly very aromatic. The palate is fresh and vibrant with orange rind and quince, fine depth, quite "strict" for a Corton Charlemagne with a tangy, marmalade-tinged finish. Fine. 91-93 Neal Martin, Vinous (2022).
The 2021 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru exhibits aromas of honeyed orchard fruit and white flowers, followed by a full-bodied, rich and ample palate. 90-92 William Kelley, Wine Advocate (2023).
50% Pernand side, 50% Languettes. One barrel of each. Very attractive perfume, a touch of lime blossom in the bouquet but ripe enough. A soapy citrus. Very stony, quite intense for the vintage, again the wood seems more present than one would expect given that the youngest barrels date from 2018. Refreshing and energetic. Very persistent. **** 93-95 Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy (2022).
