Peter Maude Fine Wines
2022, Maison Henri Boillot, BONNES-MARES, Grand Cru
A fine crimson to purple. The bouquet is exquisite albeit alongside its oak. I don't know how he does it but every year this is one of the great Bonnes Mares. Overtly luxurious yet tempered by a fine grain to the fruit and the tannins, with brilliant length. Sensational, yet avoids being just sumptuous. ***** 96-99 Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy.
Here the nose is the most floral-infused of the range with notes of violet, rose petal and lilac adding elegance to the cool, airy, spicy and layered red berry fruit aromas. Like the Chambertin, the palate impression of the middleweight flavours is not especially dense but the vibrancy, detail, complexity and simply stunning length make up for it. This is genuinely terrific and a wine built for extended keeping. Don't miss! 95 Burghound.
