2022, Maison Benjamin Leroux, ECHÉZEAUX, Grand Cru
The 2022 Echézeaux Grand Cru, which had not been racked, is unsurprisingly backward on the nose, but some very attractive, minerally red fruit is coiled up here. The medium-bodied palate has firm grip, with orange rind-infused red fruit and a slightly conservative finish that needs a little more flesh. That might develop during the rest of the élevage. 90-92 Neal Martin, Vinous (2023).
Mid purple, with a reductive nose, having not yet been racked. It resides in a single new 456 litre barrel whence a slight bacon fat reduction. The intensity of fruit explodes on the palate behind the wood, this will come round with longer élevage. **** 94-96 Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy (2023).
