2022, Maison Benjamin Leroux, POMMARD, 1er Cru, 'Rugiens Hauts'
The 2022 Pommard Les Rugiens-Hauts 1er Cru has a concentrated bouquet with blackberry and raspberry fruit, a touch of graphite coming through with aeration, and nicely focused. The palate is well-balanced, the 50% whole bunches imparting a subtle pepperiness. There's good grip and plenty of weight on the back end. This is a seriously fine Pommard that will age with style. 92-94 Neal Martin, Vinous (2023).
Four barrels made, mostly as whole bunches. Not too deep in colour, fresh red fruit, alpine strawberry, then a firmer band of deeper red fruit behind, the tannins are ripe and nicely covered by the fruit, with good acidity behind. **** 91-94 Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy (2023).
