2022, Maison Benjamin Leroux, VOLNAY, 1er Cru, 'Mitans'

$185

The 2022 Volnay Les Mitans 1er Cru is quite reticent on the nose at first, though well-defined, slightly more earthy than the Village Cru. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit, mulberry, raspberry, marmalade and a touch of Chinese 5-spice towards its fleshy finish. Drink over the next decade. 89-91 Neal Martin, Vinous (2023).

Fresh mid purple. This also has a fresher quality to the fruit, lively strawberry, I thought of some whole bunches but they were not used. Perhaps not quite the length here of the best in the stable. A little austerity at the back within the context of this vintage. 13.2% alcohol. *** 90-92 Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy (2023).

Drinking Window: 2025 - 2035
