The name of Château Brane-Cantenac's second wine honours Baron Jacques-Maxime de Brane, who owned the estate in the 19th century. Blended from vats carefully selected for their suppleness, it is aged just like First Wine, but for a 12-month period.
Tight and polished with a beautiful centre palate and density. Full-bodied, ripe and polished. Really delicious fruit to this. Strawberries and currants abound. Wonderful second wine of Brane. 91-92 James Suckling.
Powerful tannin, with a bite that is pretty ferocious. There are good fruits underneath, with deep cassis and bilberry notes. Good-quality but broad-shouldered. 91, Jane Anson, Decanter.
