The Mâcon is a wine region in southern Burgundy nestled above Beaujolais. Known for its refreshing distinctive and rounded Mâconnais white wines, generally featuring crisp acidity, bright fruit, and floral aromas of broom, white roses, acacia, honeysuckle, and citrus. Full and smooth, they typically offer ample concentration and minerality, supported by enough acidity to recommend them for cellaring, such as 1er cru Château Fuissé. Chardonnay dominates, producing unoaked to carefully integrated oaked styles.

With more recent investment/recognition in this wine-growing area, its own ancient and hilly terroir is being taken more seriously. These Chardonnays have come into their own and are now recognised as very good to luxury level drinking wines, at still relatively affordable prices – look out for delicious Dom. de la Bongran, Verget, Guffens-Heynens and J.M Boillot producers.
