Chambolle Musigny, Côte-de-Nuits, Bourgogne, France
“…multi-dimensional with great flair and opulence - brilliant winemaking. Allen Meadows, Burghound.
One of the very top domaines in Burgundy and which continues to grow in stature. Their extensive holdings around Vosne Romanee encapsulate all the villages from Nuits-St-Georges to Chambolle-Musigny. A total of 12 crus are vinified from 6.6 hectares of vineyards including 90-year-old vinesin Romanee-St-Vivant.
All the vines are kept deliberately old with replacements done individually rather than in rows. With green harvesting the yields are very low. The grapes are pressed with between 10 and 20% whole clusters and the top wines are aged in 100% new oak. There is only one racking and the wines are neither fined nor filtered when bottled 18 months after harvest.
Alain's Hudelot's grandson Charles van Canneyt has been the winemaker since 2008 and there's little doubt that their tradition of excellence has been maintained. The wines are very supple, aromatic and very elegant with much finesse. They age very well to reach full potential.
