Guillaume d'Angerville is the current Marquis having taken over upon the death of his father in 2003, and he runs the domaine with his brother-in-law Renaud. The vineyard holdings have remained virtually unchanged since the Baron du Mesnil purchased the domaine in 1804. Eight of their premier crus are in Volnay but they also have more than a hectare of premier cru Meursault.
Only 20% new oak is used for ageing of between 15 and 18 months with minimal fining and filtration. The result is wines that are distinguished, beautifully balanced and long, and they age extremely well. Although their top wine Volnay Clos des Ducs is classified premier cru, it is invariably grand cru quality with characters of rose-petal aromas, multi-layered fruit with amazing texture and length.
The New Zealand agency is available exclusively through Peter Maude Fine Wines.
