Domaine Lignier-Michelot
Morey-Saint-Denis, Côte-de-Nuits, Bourgogne, France
Wines that are pure, refined and eminently stylish.
PMFW is pleased to present a NEW Burgundy domaine that we have acquired - DOMAINE LIGNIER-MICHELOT of Morey-Saint-Denis. The original domaine was established in the 1880s by Jacques Lignier. His son Jules Lignier expanded the holdings to 2.5 hectares in the 1920s. Jules had three sons: Georges Lignier, whose son founded Domaine Georges Lignier; Maurice Lignier, whose lineage founded Domaine Lignier-Michelot; and Henri Lignier, whose son is Hubert Lignier. (Neal Martin, Vinous)
The domaine is now run by Virgile Lignier - Maurice's son. Virgile’s focus is on green pruning and working the soil without herbicides. Over the years, Virgile changed his philosophy from that of a technical winemaker to a passionate viticulturist. All the energy is spent on ensuring the growth of the very best vines and letting the wine create itself - a philosophy borrowed from the legendary Henri Jayer - whose aim was always to produce the finest fruit to begin with so that the wine can make itself as much as is possible.

Today, Virgile is producing what many believe to be the best wines in Morey St. Denis - and also from holdings in neighbouring villages Chambolle-Musigny, Gevrey-Chambertin and Nuits-Saint-Georges.
