Domaine Henri Boillot
Meursault, Côte-de-Beaune, Bourgogne
“This is once again an exemplary portfolio of wines, all of which come warmly recommended.” William Kelley, Wine Advocate.
Henri is the brother of Jean-Marc Boillot and their winemaking family has a long and very strong presence in the Côte de Beaune since the early 1900s.
As with a lot of domaines we are seeing generational changes - and that is no different at Henri Boillot - with Henri's son Guillaume now taking over most of the winemaking decisions. So, we see things like a reduction in the use of new oak; even more emphasis on work in the vineyards (although they have been organic - no chemicals - for 20 years); a different approach to pressing (some vertical for the whites) - plus a complete upgrade of the barrel hall. Peter recently visited the Domaine and was very impressed with the domaine and the quality of the wines. Unlike Jean-Marc Boillot who focusses mainly on white wines, Henri Boillot has always had a strong portfolio of reds. From a terrific Bourgogne Rouge right up to grand cru Bonnes-Mares. They are based in Meursault, but have good holdings in Puligny, including the monopole
“Clos de la Mouchere”- parcels of the “Montrachets”, and Corton-Charlemagne to the north.
