Château Fuissé
(Famille Vincent) Fuissé, Bourgogne, France
Run by winemaker/general manager Antoine Vincent and sibling Bénédicte Vincent, the family has ver 45 separate climats (plots) of Pouilly-Fuissé (plus some other appelations) which they vinify and have owned plots since 1862.
The village of Fuissé is nestled in a valley surrounded by hills (and apparently contains a lot of ancient bones from early human settlements, notably in nearby Solutré). The site of Ch. Fuissé is the typical mix of old and new, with the turreted Chateau housing the cellar and tasting room while opposite is situated a new commercial building, clad in discrete stone.
As Antoine explains, “The respect for terroir, the vintage and the Chardonnay varietal are the three essentials of the Château de Fuissé wines. The vinification is adapted to the specifics of each parcel. Vineyard expression, natural ripeness, concentration and minerality form the identity and character of our great White Burgundy wines.”
The Fuissé wines have appealing, fresh aromatics, lovely roundness with perfectly balanced acidity, richness & concentration with a vein of salty minerality. Delicious and age-worthy drinking.
The Château de Fuissé’s vineyards, located in southern Burgundy, cover more than 40 hectares (+100 acres) spanning five appellations, including the wines we stock from the Pouilly-Fuissé : 25 hectares/62 acres.
These are rich, detailed and complex wines with a hint of botrytis, with excellent cellaring prospects.
The New Zealand agency is available exclusively through Peter Maude Fine Wines.
