The domaine has now moved from organic to fully biodynamic farming practices but even in the 1970s and 80s when the use of chemical sprays in other vineyards was at its height. Alain’s organic farming included practices such as growing grass between the vine rows with no use of sprays; all in the cause of farming richer and healthier soils with maximum microbian activity that in turn results in better grape acidity and phenolic maturity.
All processes are carried out by hand and naturally in the vineyard and winery with minimal intervention. Natural yeasts are used with no temperature control at fermentation and the wines are aged for 20 months with minimal SO2 and no fining or filtration.
These excellent and highly popular wines that are reflective of the terroir, with intensity, focus and finesse.
The New Zealand agency is available exclusively through Peter Maude Fine Wines.
