The Domaine de la Vougeraie was created in 1999, combining the family property of Jean-Claude Boisset and his children and successors Nathalie and Jean-Charles. Currently the care of de Vougeraie is under the care of famed Directrice, Sylvie Poillot. The aim at La Vougeraie is to reveal the excellence of each terroir. This exacting philosophy was clear from the start through the choice of organic cultivation, marking a return to the living soil in a quest for the purest wines. Soon after, they took the first step into biodynamic practices, gradually adopting a more holistic vision.
Today Vougeraie is a very large domain with a patchwork of 74 plots covering 42 hectares make up the estate, two-thirds on the Côte de Nuits, one-third on the Côte de Beaune, together producing 36 appellations. At the heart of this is the the legendary monopole of Vougeot Premier Cru Le Clos Blanc de Vougeot.
Lovingly tended soils, low yields for concentrated fruit, which is then handled with extreme care throughout growing cycle, followed by hand vinification and ageing for each plot: All of this contributes to a style that is all about elegance and a precise expression of terroir. Attention to detail is key to the winemaking. The winery is equipped with oak vats tailored for each appellation. The vibrating sorting table and vertical press both play a key role in bringing out the best in the grapes. For ageing, eight cooperages bring a range of oak nuances depending on the characteristics of each plot and the vintage. This meticulous care extends right through to bottling, done in accordance with the lunar calendar.
The wines are superb through the whole range with an ever-growing prestige.
