Peter Maude Fine Wines
2021, La Chablisienne, CHABLIS, 'Les Clos', Grand Cru
Pale gold in colour, a limpid and brilliant wine. On opening we find an elegant freshness with a palette of dried herbs and a delicate mineral note. Becomes more complex on aeration with a floral note accompanied by fresh almonds and a fine minerality. Long-lasting. Harmonious and profound in the mouth, mature and precise notes of fruit with a mineral tension. Long, suave finish. Superbly « austere » Les Clos.
The 2021 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru is quite reductive on the nose, gradually opening with light pressed flower and grapefruit scents, quite primal and lean. The palate is more promising with a touch of struck match on the entry. There's moderate depth and crisp acidity, but it loses some complexity towards the pleasantly peppery finish. Overall, this Les Clos misses substance and grip. So-so. 87 Neal Martin, Vinous (2023).
