2022, Domaine de Bel-Air, MORGON, 'Les Charmes'
Brought up on old iron oxide and manganese sediments from crumbling pyritic schist. What makes Morgon so original are its kirsch and ripe stone fruit aromas and flavours (cherry, plum, peach, apricot etc.) combined with sweet spice. Mineral notes round off the great wealth of aromas and flavours.
Our Morgon can be enjoyed in its youth, but they are rich, fleshy and powerful wines which benefit from time in the bottle.
The 2022 Morgon Les Charmes has a classy bouquet, beautifully defined with exquisite, pure black cherry and cassis fruit, quite floral after a few swirls of the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with tart black fruit on the entry. There’s more backbone than the Morgon Via Romana, with insistent grip toward the saline, slightly peppery finish. Excellent. 91 Neal Martin, Vinous (2024).
