2021, Chapelle de la Mission Haut Brion, PESSAC-LEOGNAN

$154

Bordeaux Blend: Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot.

The 2021 La Chapelle de La Mission Haut-Brion is laced with crushed flowers, sweet red berry fruit, spice and pipe tobacco. La Chappelle is quite floral and delicate in 2021. Its understated personality is quite charming. Bright acids on the finish are a reminder of the cool, rainy growing season. 90 Antonio Galloni, Vinous (2023).

The 2021 La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion has a capable bouquet, that same mélange of red and black fruit, hints of undergrowth and potpourri emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly edgy tannins, a fresh bead of acidity, a light sapidity and a cohesive finish. Enjoy it over the next six to ten years. 89 Neal Martin, Vinous (2023).

The 2021 La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion offers up a complex, fresh bouquet with aromas of lead pencil, spices, dark berries and menthol. Medium to full-bodied with a fleshy texture, it's perfectly balanced with a structuring core of fruit, powdery tannins and a long, ethereal, delicate finish. It's more polished and round than Le Clarence de Haut-Brion. 92 Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate (2024).

Aromas of dark berries, rich spices, loamy soil and new oak introduce the 2021 La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion, a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and charming wine with an enveloping core of fruit, lively acids and powdery tannins that gently assert themselves on the finish. While it can't match the polish and elegant of La Clarence de Haut-Brion this year, it's a fine second wine. 90-92 William Kelley, Wine Advocate (2022).

Fresh and fruity nose, quite bright and expressive with clear berry fruit aromas aligned with touches of tobacco, liquorice and dark chocolate. Smooth and succulent, instantly juicy and mouthwatering. Clean and controlled, this has good energy and focus. It's quite tart, verging on sour but the mineral chalky, wet stone grip brings it back and harmonises the finish with menthol touches and soft spiced edges. A sharp, tangy wine. High acidity but lovely and cool all the way through. Nice purity and finesse. 92 Georgina Hindle, Decanter (2023).
