2020, Domaine Tollot-Beaut, BEAUNE 1er Cru, 'Grèves'
The 2019 Beaune Les Grèves 1er Cru has lower alcohol than the Clos du Roi and I find it possesses more "Pinoté" character on the nose, more terroir expression. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity. Quite harmonious, leading to a smooth, slightly savoury finish. Very fine. 90-92 Neal Martin
Rich purple, with a heady but plausible nose, this is holding together very well as befits a classical terroir. Huge density of flavour here, excellent dark fruit and grip, slightly dry tannins but with this wealth of fruit it will work. A good long term prospect with this amount of backbone. **** 91-93 Jasper Morris MW.
An equally ripe yet slightly fresher nose blends notes of spice and earth with those of red currant, plum and a very subtle suggestion of wood. There is better verve to the equally seductively textured medium-bodied flavours that possess very good mid-palate density, all wrapped in sappy, lingering and better-balanced finale because while there is a touch of warmth, it is markedly more subtle. 90 Burghound.
