Peter Maude Fine Wines

2022, Domaine Joannès Violot-Guillemard, MEURSAULT, 'Les Meix Chavaux'

$165

The Meix Chavaux I appreciated last year is still a delight in this year's richer, warmer vintage. There are ripe apricot and nectarine notes with an edge of reductive, smoky notes and a firm mineral underpinning. The texture is fresh and tense, yet there is generosity as well that brings the wine into a delicate, refined balance. The grapes were gently pressed and fermented in large 500-litre casks (20% new). The wine will open reasonably quickly after release and should drink well for at least a decade. 93 Charles Curtis MW, Decanter (2023).

Clean pale colour. Not too reductive. A lean Meursault style nonetheless. Younger wood but well integrated with a fine mineral thread, plenty of flesh, and a lovely clean piercing follow through. This will be excellent. Very persistent. **** 91 Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy (2023).
