Peter Maude Fine Wines
2019, Domaine Chandon de Briailles, SAVIGNY-LES-BEAUNE 1er Cru "Les Laviéres"
A little more purple in the colour (than Fourneaux) and the fruit digs down deeper. Fully ripe cherry, but without the easy sucrosity, which shows over-ripeness. Quite complex, a little reductive touch, middleweight with a balanced finish. *** 88-91 Jasper Morris MW
Pretty floral nuances include those of peony, violet and lavender on the more elegant aromas of both red and dark currant along with spice wisps. There is evident minerallity to the more sophisticated middle weight flavours that possess better delineation if not quite the same density before terminating in a youthfully austere finale. 90 Allen Meadows, Burghound.
Aromas of sweet berries, peonies and spices introduce the 2019 Savigny-lés-Beaune 1er Cru Les Laviéres, a medium to full-bodied, supple and enveloping wine that's broad and velvety, with melting tannins and an ample core of succulent fruit. 90-92 William Kelley, Wine Advocate.
