2023, Domaine de la Vougeraie, CLOS DE VOUGEOT, Grand Cru
$411.70 inc. GST
The 2023 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru includes whole bunches, around 30% from the upper reaches of the vineyard. This also underwent rigorous green harvesting to limit yields. The nose offers blackberry, Earl Grey and touches of wet clay (potters' wheel) on the nose, the stems imparting a very subtle black pepper note. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy tannins. It boasts plenty of freshness and more bandwidth than the previous vintage, with a vivacious, saline finish. This is very promising. 92-94 Neal Martin, Vinous (2024).
Whole bunch vinification was used on the upper plot only. Crimson ruby. A sort of chocolate note in among the concentrated deep raspberry fruit. A bit more sombre in profile, the serious approach one associates with Clos Vougeot. Properly persistent, this merits its grand cru status. **** 94-96 Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy (2024).
