This is a very sunny spot, with vines being over 35 years of age. It is a cuvée where Charles Magnien has moved on from traditional punching-down of the grape-cap to using more pumping over of the juice, to flatter the wine’s roundness. “Champeaux is always drinkable early, and very easy” he says. Colour is bright, purple-ruby, aromas are ripe and flowery. The wine has been maturing in 20% new oak, and is now gently softened from its barrel-ageing. Well-structured, with dense fruit and lovely balance, this finishes soft and silky (for drinking 2026-2032+).
Haynes Hanson & Clark, UK.

Here the expressive nose is ripe if not quite as ripe with more floral elements on the earthy and spice red berry aromas. There is fine richness and good volume to the lightly stony flavours that deliver solid length on the youthfully austere finale. This should repay mid-term keeping as it needs to develop better depth. OUTSTANDING.
91 Burghound.

The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champeaux 1er Cru, which now sees no new oak, has an open and quite generous bouquet. It is quite pure and floral in style. The palate is well balanced with plush red cherry, crushed strawberry fruit and fine tannins, becoming more compact toward the finish. It doesn't quite manage to achieve the fluidity of some of Magnien's best cuvées, but let's see how it shows with bottle age.
91+ Neal Martin, Vinous.
