Peter Maude Fine Wines
2020, Domaine Ponsot, CLOS DE VOUGEOT, 'Cuvée V.V.' Grand Cru
The majority of the fruit derives from Le Petit Maupertuis
From Petit Maupertuis. Rich heady purple. The nose is excellent, with more open fruit than many of the Ponsot 2020s at this stage. Dark but not black fruit, an excellent thread of acidity which marries well with the fruit, ripe tannins, structure and stature and very attractive fruit. **** 93-96 Jasper Morris MW.
Cool, pure and airy aromas are comprised by notes of intensely earthy, gamy and pretty red and dark pinot fruit scents. There is even better mid-palate density to the powerful and muscular big-bodied flavours that coat the palate with sappy dry extract while culminating in a firmly structured, austere and well-balanced that is impressively long. This could be fairly described as Cistercian and is a wine that should age effortlessly for several decades. 92-95 Burghound.
