2023, Domaine de la Vougeraie, GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN, 1er Cru, 'Bel Air'

The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Bel-Air 1er Cru includes 30% whole bunches this year. This has a mineral-driven bouquet with crushed limestone, redcurrant, raspberry and just a touch of brown spice and pressed violet. The palate is medium-bodied with an understated, quite fleshy entry. This is a Gevrey that welcomes you with open arms, easygoing in some ways, with a svelte finish. It will just require a couple of years in bottle. 90-92 Neal Martin, Vinous (2024).

A lively ruby colour with an exquisite bouquet, very floral and delicate red fruits, 20% whole bunch vinification. Sylvie tells me that everybody was fighting to work on this vat because the aromatics were so exquisite all the way through.
