2023, Domaine Henri Magnien, CÔTE-DE-NUITS VILLAGES, 'Clos F. Thurot', Monopole

$57.50

.50 ha monopole that is planted in a north to south orientation

This was a new arrival in the Domaine, for the 2021 vintage. The 45-year-old vines are located within the Queue de Hareng hillside plot which lies between Gevrey-Chambertin and Brochon. It is on the cusp of being up-graded to Gevrey-Chambertin status, for this is a fine site, on similar contours to nearby First Growths. Colour is mid-deep, ruby-purple, with mature, fruity aromas recalling ripe plums. It has admirable tension on the palate, with mouth-filling volume and vivacious aftertaste – great value (for drinking 2026-2030+).
Haynes Hanson & Clark, UK.

A slightly more deeply pitched nose of black cherry liqueur and newly turned earth slides into attractively textured if not especially dense flavours that exude a subtle bead of minerality on the balanced and mildly austere finale. Note that this could easily be enjoyed shortly after release.
