40-100+ year old vines coming from eight plots.
This comes from 8 different plots of 40- to 100-year old vines, with the vine-age averaging about 65 years. Many plots are planted with the Pinot Noir Magnien, whose existence dates from 1850, yielding grapes with thick skins, giving concentrated juice. Deep, ruby-purple in colour, this has abundantly open, mouth-watering aromas. Palate shows medium structure, with dense fruitiness throughout, finishing gently tannic with freshness (for drinking 2026-2032+).
Haynes Hanson & Clark, UK.
There is certainly more complexity than the Village on the nose. It is well-knit and focused with brambly red fruit tones commingling with briar and iris flower notes. The palate is medium-bodied with finely chiseled tannins, gentle grip and a subtle salinity toward the finish. This should age with style in bottle.
91 Neal Martin, Vinous.
A slightly more deeply pitched and earthier nose reflects notes of poached plum, the sauvage and that wild forest floor character. There is both better density and a finer mouthfeel to the detailed medium-bodied flavours that are noticeably firmer on the slightly long and more complex finale. One to consider. OUTSTANDING TOP VALUE.
