2023, Château Les Trois Croix, FRONSAC
$33.93 inc. GST
The attractive Fronsac estate of the late Patrick Léon, ex winemaker at Mouton Rothschild. Now run by his son Bertrand.
Inky ruby in colour, beautifully expressed plum and raspberry fruit character on the aromatics, edges of crushed rose petals. Grippy tannins, with a cushion of air underneath, and clear brambled fruit character running through the palate. Expertly put together, edge of austerity and lightly grilled oak, with elegance and finesse, and appellation typicity. Good stuff from owner Bernard Léon.

The 2023 Les Trois Croix has a slight metallic trait on the nose, though there seems to be sufficient black fruit underneath. This improves in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins. It’s fleshy and ripe, with fine structure and a touch of mineralité on the finish. This is just one of the best Fronsac wines out there. 2027-2042.

The 2022 Les Trois Croix is fabulous. Succulent dark fruit, blackberry jam, chocolate, espresso, liquorice and cloves saturate the palate. Inky and deep, with compelling inner sweetness, the 2022 offers tons of intensity in a decidedly flamboyant style. Soft, plush contours wrap it all together.
