Peter Maude Fine Wines
2021, Maison Benjamin Leroux, VOLNAY, 1er Cru, 'Santenots'
One third whole bunch vinification. Rather more colour here, bright crimson, the whole bunches give more intensity to the bouquet, red berry alpine strawberry, and a juicy generous finish. This is really lovely in a medium intense setting and very persistent. The crop was 24 hl/ha from a vine which never gives enormously. Superb. **** 92-94 Jasper Morris MW.
The 2021 Volnay Santenots 1er Cru had a decent-sized crop. Its nose presents open-knit, red berry fruit, with plenty of sous-bois and a touch of mint. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannins and a touch of white pepper thanks to the one-third whole bunches. There's a gentle grip on the finish. 89-91 Neal Martin, Vinous (tasted Nov 2022).
