Peter Maude Fine Wines
2022, Maison Benjamin Leroux, MEURSAULT, 1er Cru, 'Genevrières'
The 2022 Meursault Genevrières 1er Cru has a more backward bouquet than the Les Charmes-Dessus, gaining intensity all the time in the glass. The well-balanced palate has a slightly creamy texture, harmonious with grilled hazelnut and almond. There's a touch of vanilla pod towards the finish from the oak that will be subsumed with time. Very fine. 92-94 Neal Martin, Vinous (2023).
Because of the wretched 161/49 rootstock problem, these vines have been pulled out after the 2023 vintage. The nose is a little restrained after the pale yellow colour. Quite punchy, a little yellow fruit, super concentrated but not quite the finesse of my favourites in the cellar. *** 91-93 Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy (2023).
