Peter Maude Fine Wines
2020, Domaine Brusset, GIGONDAS, 'Les Secrets de Montmirail'
Juicy, round, sweet red fruits and a touch of blackberry. With fine, mouth-coating tannin and great finesse on the palate which finishes long. Not a big wine but will take a little while to show its best. Three terraces under the Dentelles de Montmirail, all destemmed, 50% aged in new oak, the rest in vats. 93 Matt Walls, Decanter.
Saturated violet color. An exotically perfumed bouquet evokes an array of mineral- and spice-accented red and blue fruits, vanilla, incense and potpourri. Deeply concentrated yet distinctly energetic, this wine also offers vibrant black raspberry, cherry-cola and mulberry flavors that are complemented by licorice, candied dates, mocha and black pepper suggestions. The wonderfully long, penetrating finish features youthfully chewy tannins and resonating blue fruit, floral and oak spice notes. Give this substantial wine enough time for the oak elements to get to know the fruit better. Raised 50% in new oak casks and 50% in concrete vats. 95 Josh Raynolds, Vinous.
