This is the second wine of La Mission Haut Brion.
In 2023 Chapelle is 48% Merlot with the rest Cabernet Sauvignon except for 12% Cabernet Franc.
Deep ruby colour, makes an immediate impression with its elegant, uplifted tannic grip delivering careful construction of red roses, blueberry and black cherry fruit, grilled spices and understated energy. Will need a good few years in bottle before fully softening, but full of joy.

The 2023 La Chapelle de La Mission Haut-Brion is a potent yet accessible second wine. Soft contours add to its considerable appeal. Crushed flowers, spice and sweet pipe tobacco lift a core of red-toned fruit in this racy, sensual Chapelle. Attractive floral and cinnamon notes linger. The 2023 is all charm—I expect it will drink well with minimal cellaring. 2026-2043
90-92 Antonio Galloni. Vinous.
The solid centre-palate and sure nature says La Mission, as it should, being the second wine of the estate. Medium body with a creamy and refined tannin structure that is long and true. Oyster-shell and blackcurrant character, as well as crushed stones. Direct.
95-96 James Suckling.
La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion 2023 has a deep garnet-purple colour. It erupts from the glass with a powerful core of plums preserves, blueberry pie, and liquorice, leading to suggestions of candied violets, crushed rocks, and juicy raspberries. Medium-bodied, the palate is satiny soft and wonderfully fresh, with black and blue fruit layers and impressive tension, finishing on a compelling floral note.
91-93 Lisa Perrotti-Brown.
