Peter Maude Fine Wines
2022, Domaine Joannès Violot-Guillemard, POMMARD, 1er Cru, 'Epenots'
Offering up aromas of smoky berries mingled with notions of potpourri, orange zest and peony, the 2022 Pommard 1er Cru Les Epenots is medium to full-bodied, supple and velvety, with lively acids, beautifully refined tannins and a floral finish. 92-93 William Kelley, Wine Advocate (2024).
A pinker edge to the crimson. Here the whole bunch strawberry is rather crisper than the Fremiers. Very intense fresh raspberry up front, and a raft of white pepper along with some tannin behind. This wine is still rather raw but with fine potential. **** 91-94 Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy (2023).
Very pretty, even perfumed, aromas are also exceptionally floral with layered nose of red and dark cherry, earth and a plenitude of spice elements. The round, generous and wonderfully textured medium-bodied flavours are caressing yet powerful with notably better density on the dusty, long and firmer built-to-age finale. This is well-worth your interest, particularly if you have at least some patience. 92 Allen Meadows, Burghound (2024).
