2021, Domaine Samuel Billaud, CHABLIS, 'Blanchot', Grand Cru
Mid lemon yellow. The 2021 Blanchot was difficult to taste at first, following on from the lusher 2022s. However, I went back to it after tasting the Bougros in order to get a more accurate reading. Maybe still very slightly marked by the oak. Good intensity. A sort of lactic saltiness, with an iodine note. Drink from 2027-2032. Tasted: June 2023.

Matured in two-year-old Chassin barrels, the 2021 Chablis Blanchot Grand Cru has a divine peach skin and orange blossom scented bouquet, touches of wet stone coming through with time. The palate is beautifully balanced with a fine bead of acidity, elegant and poised. Hints of white peach and quince lead to a fabulous, heart-melting finish. Exceptional in every way.
