Peter Maude Fine Wines

2019, Cassetta Selezione Grandi Vigne (6 bottle Pack) of Parusso BAROLO, Italy

$1,055

6 great wines from the outstanding 2019 vintage (all rated 94+ Vinous),
contains two bottles of each great terriior cultivated by Marco Parusso:

- Mariondino: Produced from the coolest plot, the wine is a masterpiece of finesse, displaying beautiful tension on a palette of spicy, citrusy aromas. (2x bottles).

- Mosconi: Its warm terrior makes it the most powerful and massive wine of the three, with a deepbouquet exuding tobacco and leather.  (2x bottles).

- Bussia: The most refined of the three wines, its texture is silky with fine and noble tannins, a mouthfeel that is wonderfully soft. (2x bottles).

The 2019 Barolo Mariondino is gorgeous. Broad and ample, the Mariondino impresses with its persistence and spherical feel. Black cherry, spice, lavender, menthol and dried flowers infuse the 2019 with striking depth. In 2019, the Mariondino is escpecially resonant and expansive, with striking depth and fine balance. Sandy soils and a cool micro-climate in this parcel yield a Barolo with tons of floral presence and a distinctive blood orange note that add freshness. 94 Antonio Galloni, Vinous.

The 2019 Barolo Mosconi is a deep, powerful wine. Huge swaths of tannin are pretty overpowering at this stage. Then again, this is Mosconi, where Barolos are typically quite potent. It will be interesting to see if the fruit emerges over time. Dark plum, menthol, leather sage and graphite lend character. I suspect the 2019 will be stellar if given the time to come together. 94+ Antonio Galloni, Vinous.

Parusso's 2019 Barolo Bussia is sensual, caressing and super-expressive. Silky tannins and lifted, precise aromatics give this mid-weight wine understatement and class. The Bussia is a sublime Barolo that needs time to fully express its considerable potential. There's a ton to look forward to. The Bussia has a lot of potential. 95 Antonio Galloni, Vinous.
