2020, Domaine Ponsot, CORTON, 'Cuvée du Bourdon' Grand Cru
Seventy percent from Les Paulands and 30% from Clos du Roi, the 2020 Corton has quite an intense black cherry and blueberry scented bouquet with just a hint of violet in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with an effervescent, orange zest infused entry, a superb line of acidity on the vibrant finish. This is very impressive, stylish with charm. 94 Neal Martin.
70% from Les Paulands 30% Clos du Roi and no Perriéres this year. A deep colour, more purple than black. The bouquet is not ready to give much yet. The fruit is powerful on the palate but does not quite fill out the mouth. Dark fruit, plums and rhubarb, some structure behind, and very good length. *** 90-93 Jasper Morris MW.
Here the somewhat grumpy nose requires aggressive swirling to coax the earth and sauvage-inflected dark berry fruit aromas to reveal themselves. The tautly muscular and well-detailed flavours are not especially dense though they are almost painfully intense, all wrapped in a compact, firm and austere if not really rustic finale. 91-93 Burghound.
