Peter Maude Fine Wines
2021, Château Saint Pierre, SAINT-JULIEN, 4ème Grand Cru Classé
Bordeaux Blend: Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot.
The last few vintages have been of real super-second quality and have matched or beaten the big names in blind tastings. Farr Vintners
Enjoyable damson and red cherry fruit, sandalwood smoke adds depth though the mid palate, with stretched out tannins studded through with white pepper and turmeric. This is bright and well handled, good structure, firm tannins, austere but finessed. 34hl/h yield, first year organic conversion, Jean-Michel Comme consultant. 93 Jane Anson
Blackcurrant and blackberry aromas and flavours with graphite and liquorice. Medium body, fine tannins and a savoury finish. 92-93 James Suckling.
A real strawberry and red cherry tang with grippy tannins that are chewy and fleshy. It's well worked with body and structure delivering a consistency from start to the long finish. May not be the most vivacious at the moment but this has excellent clarity and positioning with no let up. A bolder style for the vintage with confidence, charm and precision on show. 93 Georgina Hindle, Decanter.
The 2021 Saint-Pierre is very pretty, offering up aromas of plums, wild berries, sweet spice box, cigar wrapper and nicely integrated new oak. Medium to full-bodied, ample and layered, it's a charming, fleshy wine with lively acids and fine length on the finish. 91-93 William Kelley.
