Peter Maude Fine Wines

2020, Domaine du Pélican, ARBOIS, 'Brut S'

$78

Brut as in “dry”, S for Savagnin, and zero (°) for no dosage.

Domaine du Pélican's bubbly cuvée, made entirely from Savagnin. No sugar, no added yeasts, just the ripe fruit, which gives the wine its vinous character, and the classic qualities of the Savagnin grape bring vivacity, tension, and vibration. The aromatics are bright and clean. The mouth is long and delicate. Domaine du Pélican wanted to add a bubbly to its range of Jura wines. For this, they have chosen to use Savagnin. Labelled Vin de France because it does not fulfil the criteria for Crémant du Jura, which insists on the inclusion of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and allows only 30% Savagnin. Disgorgement after 12 months of ageing and 17 months on lees.

"I hope this is not too expensive because it really is terrific." Julia Harding MW (in reference to the previous vintage, 2019 - which was the domaine's first release).
