2022, Domaine Y. Clerget, VOLNAY, 1er Cru, 'Brouillards' (Négoce)

$220

The 2022 Volnay En Bouillard 1er Cru is the first release from Clerget. It includes 20% new oak and is fully de-stemmed. The perfumed, floral bouquet offers rose petals and iris flowers infusing the raspberry and wild strawberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip. Fine structure, very transparent, and so that's not a huge grip on the finish. Elegant and refined, this will demand just three or four years before it should be opened. 90-92 Neal Martin, Vinous (2023).

A much spicier blend features notes of both red and dark cherry and whiffs of cinnamon tea. The sleek, delicious and vibrant flavours possess solid mid-palate concentration as well a refreshing salinity on the impressively long, balanced and youthfully austere finale. This is lovely with good richness, even succulence, which should permit this to be enjoyed on the younger side. 90-93 Allen Meadows, Burghound (2024).

Drinking Window: 2026 - 2038
