Peter Maude Fine Wines
2021, Château Lagrange, AOC POMEROL
100% Merlot.
25 + Year old Vines.
This 9 hectare Pomerol property has been owned by the Moueix family since 1953 when it was purchased with Trotanoy. Supple, round, generous and fruit-driven, Château Lagrange is a delightful expression of the lighter style of Pomerol wines, approachable in its youth.
A firm and silky wine with finesse and beauty. Medium body. Medium, round tannins. Juicy finish. Subtle. 92-93 James Suckling.
Fragrant blackcurrants on the nose, softly perfumed and so attractive. Plums, damsons, raspberries and red cherries. Lightly framed on the palate, soft and gently round with such precision and clarity, fine sleek tannins and a backbone of liquorice, dark chocolate, graphite, chalk and smoked blackcurrants giving such depth on the mid palate. A brooding style, stopping short of being spicy but with a touch of cinnamon, vanilla and cedar on the finish. I love the cooling finish and overall tone of this. 91 Georgina Hindle, Decanter.
The 2021 is 100% Merlot as always, and was harvested from 29th September to 4th October. Deep ruby colour with a silky red cherry and plum tones. The palate has a lick of sweet spice prominent throughout, but the bright acidity and vivid cherry fruit keep everything nicely balanced. The finish has a darker tone, with dark plums layered by coffee and dark chocolate. This is a supple and moreish showing of 2021. 90-92 Thomas Parker MW, Farr Vintners.
Spicy, aromatic floral nose. Juicy and savoury mouth-feel. Lively acidity. You can taste the heat and warmth. Nice long finish elegant architecture. Tannins quite smooth. Very accessible. Katharine Maude.
