2021, Domaine Arnaud Baillot, CORTON-CHARLEMAGNE, Grand Cru

Emperor Charlemagne (Carolus Magnus) was, according to legend, the owner of the vineyard. 12 months in 50% new oak.

Gosh, that's good. Very fine nose - lifted - detailed. Elegant. Ripeness is spot on. Very refined. Lovely sweet mid-palate and long finish. Beautifully balanced. ****½ JK 26/5/23.

A beautiful array of tree fruits particularly pear, orange zest and hints of pineapple and honeysuckle.  Light but reasonably intense with complex texture.  Lingering clean fresh pear on the finish. Simply lovely. Jo Charvill 26/5/23.

Pale gold. Pear, white flowers on the nose, long, mineral and a little citrus showing on the finish. Mineral, juicy (and lean at this stage – suspect it will fill out with time) has bon acidité. Needs more time in the bottle. Katharine Maude (at the domaine 07/10/2022).
