Peter Maude Fine Wines
2022, Domaine A. -F. Gros, VOSNE-ROMANÉE 'Aux Réas'
"This is an outstanding Vosne villages that is built-to-age."
Allen Meadows.
Aux Réas vineyard sits next to the Monopole - Clos des Reas - owned by Anne-Françoise's brother Michel Gros.
A discreet though not imperceptible dollop of wood can be found on the more floral-infused aromas of various red berries, exotic tea and hoisin. The super-sleek medium-bodied flavours possess ample minerality and a taut muscularity while delivering impressive length on the moderately austere, compact and impressively long finale. This is an outstanding Vosne villages that is built-to-age; besides Aux Réas always needs time in bottle and this one will be no exception. Outstanding.

A lighter purple. Here the whole bunches show more on the nose, giving a softer touch to the bouquet. Impressive density behind, raspberry and crushed strawberry grow to the back of the palate. Length and some class. Drink from 2028-2035.
**** 91-93 Jasper Morris MW.
There is a lovely, ripe, plummy fruit on the initial attack of this elegant village-level Vosne, the largest holding of the domaine, totalling 1.6 ha. However, Caroline Parent notes they have replanted a half hectare. The wine is lighter in style and body because there was less concentration of the berries than in 2020, yet the balance is delightful. This wine should open relatively early and be pleasant for current drinking or mid-term cellaring.
