Peter Maude Fine Wines
2022, Domaine Bruno Clair, CHAMBOLLE-MUSIGNY, 'Les Véroilles'
Fine purple. The succulence of the fruit stands out here. Then rather tighter than expected with fresh acidity on the palate, showing the leaner aspects of the hillside site. This may fill out more later on, to earn a higher rating. *** 90-92 Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.
There is enough reduction present to mask the nuances of the fruit and floral notes. More interesting are the appealingly textured and vibrant middleweight flavours that are intensely mineral-driven and particularly so on the firmly austere and linear, but not really strict, finale. The mid-palate mouthfeel is lacy but the finale is firm, compact and serious. 89-91 Burghound.
The 2022 Chambolle-Musigny Les Veroilles opens in the glass with notes of sweet red berries, cherries, vine smoke and spices. Medium-bodied, pure and fine-boned, with a sweet core of fruit, melting tannins and a sapid finish, it derives from a high-altitude parcel above Bonnes Mares. 90-91 William Kelley, Wine Advocate.
