Peter Maude Fine Wines
2022, Domaine Joannès Violot-Guillemard, POMMARD, 1er Cru, 'La Platière'
The 2022 Pommard 1er Cru La Platière offers up aromas of peonies, cherries, blood orange and sweet spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, supple and fleshy palate that's rich and youthfully structured, its powdery tannins asserting themselves on the discreetly firm finish. 90-92 William Kelley, Wine Advocate (2024).
Half whole bunch vinification. A fine bright medium purple. Plenty of energy here, vibrant raspberries. Tense dark fruit with a few more tannins behind. Fair length. There might be one barrel drying the finish a bit, which has held the rating back from where it might otherwise be. *** 89-92 Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy (2023).
The high elevation of the vineyard definitely shows in the coolness of the high-toned and airy red pinot fruit, spice and wet stone-scented nose. There is a lovely underlying tension to the delicious and markedly precise, if not especially dense, middleweight flavours that exude an almost pungent minerality on the dusty, youthfully austere and noticeably firmer finale. Lovely and very La Platière in character. 91 Allen Meadows, Burghound (2024).
