The 2023 Charlemagne Grand Cru comes from two parcels, one in Aloxe-Corton and the other toward Pernand-Vergelesses. It has a touch of beeswax on the nose with good concentration and moderate definition, gaining more intensity as it opens in the glass. The palate is well balanced with fine weight and attractive texture. There is just the right amount of bitterness to lend nerve on the finish. Recommended. 92-94 Neal Martin, Vinous (2024).
The 11th vintage of this name. Others are starting to follow the lead. Mid lemon yellow. The nose starts discreetly, with a certain volume of fruit and only a hint of minerality. There is no doubting the power on the palate but there is also class and now here come the stones, tumbling over each other, with the lightest of lemon washes. This is building slowly and steadily into a majestic wine. Amazingly persistent. **** 94-96 Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy (2024).
