2023, Domaine de la Vougeraie, PULIGNY-MONTRACHET, 1er Cru, 'Champs Gains'

The 2023 Puligny-Montrachet Champ Gain 1er Cru has quite a primal nose of grapefruit and freshly sliced pears with a touch of fig in the background. The palate is well balanced with a lightly spiced entry. There is good weight here—a Puligny with fine density, though it needs more precision and nerve on the finish to compete with the elite from this vineyard. 88-90 Neal Martin, Vinous (2024).

Lemon and lime colour. Fermentation aromatics, and some fresh apple. More structure on the palate with a raft of white fruit, becoming more generous to the back of the palate, good acidity throughout. A long and distinguished finish. **** 92-94 Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy (2024).
