This is the sixth vintage of Charles making his premier cru Aloxe-Corton. It took him time to get a handle on the typicity of the village, while maintaining his overall, Gevrey-influenced drive for fruit, with harmony and roundness. He has again brilliantly succeeded with this 2023, which shows medium deep colour and fine aromas. Palate is broad and densely fruity, tannins and acidity are finely in balance, finish is fresh and supple (for drinking 2027-2032+).

A ripe, fresh and overtly sauvage-inflected nose is comprised mostly by various dark berry aromas. The succulent, round and delicious middle weight flavours possess good volume and focused power before concluding in a lightly stony, rustic and compact finale. This is very Aloxe in style without being over-the-top rustic.

The 2023 Aloxe-Corton La Coutiere 1er Cru, which sees 30% new oak, has an earthy, austere nose at this point. The palate is medium-bodied and fresh with crisp tannins and a touch of orange rind interlacing the dark berry fruit on the finish. This will serve you well for six or seven years.
