2021, Château Coutet, BARSAC, 1er Grand Cru Classé, Grand Vin de Sauternes

$94

Bordeaux Blend: Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Muscadelle.

Great quality, bright and concentrated, dried apricots, mandarin peel, fig, pineapple and candied ginger, with a touch of bitterness and a mouthwatering finish. This is gorgeous, one to look out for. 95 Jane Anson.

The 2021 Coutet needs time in the glass, eventually offering scents of dried honey, pressed flowers and quince. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity and good weight and tension, showing the energy that is slightly lacking on the nose at the moment. Maybe it could benefit from more unctuousness on the finish, but this remains an enjoyable Barsac that will gain complexity with bottle age. 93-95 Neal Martin.

Slightly toasted orange rind and vanilla caramel on the nose. Lovely density and unctuousness on the palate, really quite rich and fleshy with peach, sweet pineapple and toasted almond notes on the palate. Mouthwatering and racy, but also textured, balanced and structured. A great effort with excellent ageing potential. 94 Georgina Hindle, Decanter.
